Service Opportunity

All GodTeens are welcome & encouraged to volunteer at the benefit for the Kim Short family on August 4th.  Kim, a 6th grader at St. John's, was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia & will soon be undergoing a bone marrow transplant. 

This benefit will raise funds for the family through a meal & silent auction.  A variety of help is needed anytime between 11:00 & 4:00 that day.  Please contact Amber Soden, Cathy Martinez, Nikki Konz, or your GodParents if you are able to volunteer.

 Also, thank you to the freshmen & sophomores for doing such a great job with the Easter Egg Hunt!  The kids had a fantastic time.  I'll let your sponsors post some more that don't involve our kids.  ;)

Fish Fry

It's that time again GodTeens!  Time for the St. John's Fish Fry Fridays.  We will be helping out at the dessert tables on next Friday, March 8th.  All GodTeens are asked to donate 1 or 2 desserts to be sold that evening.  Best sellers are pies & interesting cakes.  Cookies & cupcakes rarely sell well.  Please drop off your desserts by 3:30 p.m. in the Social Hall.

Then come back to help us sell them (& keep all the profits!  This is our one group fundraiser of the year... so easy!).  Freshmen will be working the first shift from 3:45-5:00 (come early to help cut desserts if you can).  Juniors & Seniors will work from 5:00-6:00.  Sophomores will work from 6:00 until all are through the line or all the desserts are gone.

If you can't be there at your class's  specific shift but can do another one, that would be fine as well.  Or you are welcome to work longer if you'd like!  We're glad to sign off volunteer hours for community service if desired.  Please wear your GodTeen shirt & show up 5 minutes early for your shift.  Let your GodParents know if you can make it!  Thanks for your help.

Harvest Festival

It's that time of year again to celebrate our great parish of St. John's at the Harvest Festival on this Sunday, September 16th! We as GodTeens get a special chance to serve by assisting with the main meal. We fill drinks, bus & wash tables, carry trays, take out trash, clean up spills, serve in the line, & help out wherever is needed. Please, wear your GodTeen shirt & find your GodParents 5 minutes early in the Social Hall to see where you can help. Here are our shifts: Seniors 11-12:30 Sophomores 12:30-2 Freshmen 2-3:30 Juniors 3:30-4:30
Please, let your GodParents know if you are able to help!  If you have a sibling also working & you'd prefer to work together, that's fine.  Just inform your GodParents.  Thank you for your service!

Savor the summer

     We hope many of you were able to enjoy Totus Tuus at St. John's this week!  A big thank you to those who helped out with the grade school camp & VBS as well.  Your enthusiastic assistance was an excellent contribution!
     If you missed out on the fun or just want to continue to savor the summer, call the Family Life Office to get in on one of the Canoe Trips coming up next week.  Should be a blast!  See the post below for more details.
     Also, if you haven't had a chance yet to see the movie "For Greater Glory" you're in luck!  Due to the overwhelming response this past week, the Grand theater has decided to run this incredible true story of the fight for religious freedom in Mexico for another week.  This is a must see!  Remember that it is rated R for war-related violence, so bring along a parent.

Fish Fry

Thank you to all who have volunteered to help with the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry this Friday, March 23rd! If you plan to bring a dessert, please drop them off in the Social Hall between 3:00-4:00 if possible. Remember that cakes, pies, & chocolate desserts always sell best. Use a disposable container or mark your container well so it is easy to return to you!
If you are helping work at the dessert table, please wear your new GodTeens shirt & show up 5 minutes early for your shift.
4-5 pm Juniors
5-6 pm Freshmen
6-7 pm Sophomores
7-8 pm Seniors
If you can't work your class's shift, but are able to help at another time, please do! (Remember that this can count as service hours, as well, so if you have a form that you need signed, please bring it along.) Thank you for your service!

We collected almost $900.00, which goes a long way to feed the hungry of Lincoln.

Souper Bowl Sunday

February 6th is "Souper Bowl Sunday"

St. John's GodTeens will be helping collect donations for Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach after all Masses. What a simple way to help feed the homeless & working poor of Lincoln! Please, click on a button for the Mass that your family will be attending to sign up. (If you already signed up at your meeting but need to switch, your undo passcode should be your first name in lower-case letters.)

At the start of the closing hymn head to the vestibule WITH A SOUP BOWL FROM HOME. We'll stand in the back & collect donations for 15 minutes or so. Just hold out your bowl, smile, & say thank you! Afterwards we will put all the money together in a marked envelope & give it to the office.

Advent

Thank you for your delicious, beautiful, & thoughtful contributions to our Christmas Care Packages, freshmen! They turned out very nice & we're sure that the recipients will be joyful to receive such a gift of love. Don't forget to say a few extra prayers or offer a sacrifice for the two prayer partners that you chose. They're the best gift!

There were lots of great ideas given for Advent resolutions & ways to prepare our hearts for Jesus' birth at Christmas. Here are a few:

~give up complaining

~say a special prayer everyday for your family

~do a Jesse Tree

~light an Advent wreath at mealtimes

~really focus at Mass

~offer up not playing COD for someone who is homeless

~pray a Rosary each week for a different person

~be extra kind to someone who doesn't have many friends

~write Christmas cards to our priests thanking them for their sacrifices to help us learn the Faith

~kneel while saying morning prayers

Freshman Service

Well, our vote came down to Kids Against Hunger & Christmas Baskets. Looking into it a little more, we discovered that the KAHunger volunteering also strongly suggests fundraising the costs of the food that is packaged. We probably don't have time to coordinate that & doing the acual volunteering yet this year; we'll look into it for the spring.

So, that means we will be creating Christmas gift boxes for the people that we will be visiting when we go caroling as part of our next meeting on December 1st! We'll try to have jobs to suit everyone's talents as we work together to make them. We'll look for everyone to sign up by November 28th. If you don't by then, we'll be calling you. Freshman Service Project

Hello, Freshmen =]

We are so THANKFUL for the great crowd last week! We hope that you learned a little more about being thankful for both joys & sufferings. A great way to show our thankfulness for our faith, family, friends, & countless other blessings is by helping another in need. We discussed & researched the service project ideas & came up with the list below. These are the ones that could be feasible this semester, though we may try for one of the others in the spring. Please, read through them & vote on your favorite in the poll on the right hand side of the page by Wednesday the 17th. We'll let you know the results & details next week!
